The History of Arthur White: The Five Wits

The following is an excerpt of an email sent from Will to Art on 2 January 2013.

The Five Wits were already a really popular band for teen dances, but with Arthur in the group, they became the most in-demand teen band in town.

When Will graduated, the band played all sorts of bars and clubs in Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Windsor, and club owners always looked the other way about letting Arthur in...he looked and sounded far older than he was, and women packed the place whenever he came. Will decided that since Arthur was the big draw in the band, they should make Arthur the front man. But there were two problems. One was the ongoing problem that there were six people in the Five Wits. That was easily solved by being Arthur Witkowski and the Five Wits, but Witkowski sounded like a polka band name.

Will renamed Arthur "Arthur White" and the band became Arthur White and the Five Wits.

Lena became ill during Arthur's senior year of high school. On her deathbed, she gave her sons her blessing, then sent Arthur away and thanked Will for taking Arthur under his wing. She told him how she could see how Will's sacrifice of his pride had helped Arthur find his true calling as a great musician, and she explained how she knew that with his further help, Arthur could be a star.

Her last request was for Will to make Arthur a star, and Will vowed he would.
